About our Leader

Originally from Southern California, Coach Brett Wille moved with his family to the Northwest and spent his high school years attending Woodinville High School.  As a three-sport athlete he received All-KingCo Honors as a member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams, all of which were ranked in state his senior year.  After high school Coach Wille went on to play college basketball at Northwest University.  As a shooting guard at Northwest, Coach Wille had four successful seasons and currently ranks in the top ten on the all time scoring list and in the top five for career 3-point field goals made.  In his senior season at Northwest, Coach Wille led his team to the National Tournament and received All-American Honors, both academically and as a shooting guard.

As a college graduate in 1997, Coach Wille married his high-school sweetheart Tambi and began to pursue his dream of being a teacher and a coach.  “I had so many coaches and teachers in my life that made a difference for me.  I always wanted to become that same positive influence in the lives of young people, so teaching and coaching has allowed me to fulfill that goal.”  In 1999 Coach Wille got his first teaching job here in Monroe and in 2001 he was hired as the head boys basketball coach at Monroe High School.  “When I took the coaching job I had done my homework and I knew that Monroe was the only 4A school in WESCO without an organized select program feeding into the high school.  When you look around the state at the most successful basketball programs, they all have strong youth programs that are connected to the high school.  So the first thing I did was organize a group of parents to get our select program started.  After six years here in Monroe, I am proud to say that we have made tremendous strides and we have built a solid select program that is doing an outstanding job of preparing our young athletes for high school basketball.”

As the head coach at Monroe High School, Coach Wille has built a solid high school program that has made improvements every year and is well-respected by other coaches in the Western Conference.  Around the league his teams are noted for their hustle, their solid man defense, and their positive attitudes on the court.  As his high school teams continue to improve, Coach Wille continues to point to the select program as the foundation for what will put Monroe Basketball on the map.  “The key to Monroe Basketball and taking it to the next level, without question, lies with our youth program.  We are relying on our youth coaches to teach these kids solid fundamentals, necessary basketball skills, and how to compete as an athlete so that we they get to high school they are 100% prepared.  I am so thankful to all of the people who have helped make our select program a reality and I am very excited to see things continue to develop in the coming years.  Monroe Basketball is something we should all be proud of and I truly believe that what we have built here in Monroe will, one day, be looked at by other programs as the model for basketball success.”
